About Us:

The Center for Dermatology Nursing Practice is dedicated to advancing excellence in dermatology nursing care through education, certification, research, and collaboration.

The Center for Dermatology Nursing Practice (CDNP) is an educational company dedicated to assessing and developing dermatology nursing education and practice. Its founder and president, Dr. Margaret Bobonich, is well-known for her innovative and successful dermatology educational program development. As a co-founder of the Center for Advanced Practice Dermatology, she launched the first, live DCNP Review Course in 2019 and served as the course director. The DCNP Review Courses and the Practice to Pass program became a critical educational tool for dermatology NPs striving to elevate their level of professionalism by achieving national certification. Now in 2022, Dr. Bobonich’s commitment to dermatology education has expanded to include all levels of dermatology nursing practice. As the science and technology of dermatology evolves rapidly, so must professional education and competencies. The new CDNP will not only provide educational programs, including THE DCNP Review Course 2022, but will also cultivate new programs addressing the educational gaps of dermatology NPs, registered nurses, and medical assistants working in dermatology.

Margaret Bobonich, DNP, FNP-C, DCNP, FAANP – Founder and President

Margaret BobonichMargaret Bobonich, DNP, FNP-C, DCNP, FAANP, is an Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve (CWRU) School of Medicine and Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, as well as Adjunct Faculty at Florida Atlantic University’s College of Nursing. Dr. Bobonich is a Dermatology Certified Nurse Practitioner with an active clinical practice at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Centers (UHCMC) in Cleveland, Ohio. With more than 40 years of nursing experience, she has dedicated her clinical focus to immunodermatology including complex skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and blistering diseases.

In addition to her busy clinical practice, Dr. Bobonich has been a leader in dermatology education for two decades. She serves as faculty in the CWRU medical dermatology residency program and created the UHCMC innovative 2-year interdisciplinary post-Master’s Dermatology NP Residency in 2015.  During her doctoral program, Dr. Bobonich conducted seminal research and published the A Core Curriculum for Dermatology NPs: Using Delphi Technique (Bobonich & Cooper, 2015). This data has provided the foundation for dermatology NP education. She went on to co-Chair the national task force establishing the Professional Competencies for Nurse Practitioners in Dermatology (Bobonich & Nolen, 2018). This critical document was awarded the American Association of Nurse Practitioner’s first Open Access Award in 2019 for research and publications with a critical impact on NP practice. Dr. Bobonich served as a member of the Dermatology Nurses’ Association National Task Force for revision of the Dermatology Nursing: Scope and Standards of Care, published in 2020.

As co-editor of Dermatology for Advanced Practice Clinicians, Dr. Bobonich utilized her research to guide content addressing knowledge gaps for advance practice providers, including NPs and PAs (Bobonich & Nolen, 2015). The second edition of the textbook was released in 2021 as a collaborative and interdisciplinary effort among dermatology NP and PA contributors. Dr. Bobonich has been committed to raising the level of professionalism for all dermatology NPs through certification as Dermatology Certified Nurse Practitioners (DCNP). Recognizing the low number of DCNPs nationally, lack of exam preparation tools, and low pass rate, she co-founded the Center for Advanced Practice Dermatology. Dr. Bobonich launched the first, live DCNP Review Course in 2019 as the course director. Three years of DCNP Review Courses and the Practice to Pass program in 2021 became critical educational tools directly impacting the rise in number of dermatology NPs who are DCNP and increased pass rates for the certification examination.

Most recently, Dr. Bobonich and Mary Nolen, MSN, DCNP (founder of the Lahey Clinic Dermatology NP Fellowship) joined together to utilize their decades of teaching experience to create the Florida Atlantic University Post-Master’s Dermatology NP Certificate program in 2021. This is the only accredited certificate program in a college of nursing that provides dermatology specialty education and training for NPs. Currently in the second year, FAU’s highly competitive program has attracted both new and experienced dermatology NPs seeking formal dermatology specialty education.

Dr. Bobonich is a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and launched the first Dermatology Specialty Group within the AANP. She is a well-known national educator on complex dermatology for NPs, PAs, physicians, and nurses.
